When Genghis Khan’s troops arrived in front of a certain city, they called on its inhabitants to surrender (or Khan’s troops destroy will the city). For example, they encountered resistance in the territory of Persia, so they destroyed all the cities of Persia. However, because of this, they ruled over a pile of rubble. Thus the acquisition of territory also lost its meaning. Dominating nothing is worth nothing.

When the Russian army arrived in front of the city of Mariupol in February 2022, they encountered resistance. Mariupol is one of Ukraine’s maritime centers, and this city was a major player in the world’s steel industry. It was inhabited by 425 thousand people. The Russians destroyed the city.

Amikor az orosz hadsereg megérkezett Mariupol városa elé 2022 februárjában, ellenállást tapasztaltak. Mariupol Ukrajna egyik tengeri központja, a világ acéliparának jelentős szereplője volt ez a város. 425 ezren lakták. Az oroszok a földdel tették egyenlővé.

The other city – A másik város – Bahmut

The other city that resisted was the city of Bahmut. The Russians reached Bahmut in August 2022, but here they face even tougher resistance. The Russkies fought for the area around the settlement for three months, after which they took it (the city itself) in another nine months. Since the Russians were not about to win, they destroyed all the buildings indiscriminately so that the defenders had nowhere to hide. It originally had 71,000 inhabitants, now its population is 500. The settlement was destroyed.

Actual destruction – Akutális pusztítás

The current city standing in the way of the Russkies is Adiivka. When Russia attacked Ukraine for the first time in 2014, they reached the border of this settlement, but could not take it. One of the first stops of the 2022 invasion was Adiivka, but the resistance could not be broken, even with a huge military superiority. Then the Russians lost their attention on Adiivka for months, but now they want to occupy it again. Most of the city is already uninhabitable, it was blown up with artillery, bombed from their planes and now their infantry is trying to run it down with tanks and other armored vehicles. – The population of the settlement was 31,000 people, now it is around 1,000.
